Wes Unseld was an American professional basketball player. He was born on March 14, 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky and passed away on June 2, 2020.
Unseld played center in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1968 to 1981. He spent his entire career with the Baltimore/Washington Bullets, helping lead the team to the NBA championship in 1978.
Unseld was known for his physical play and his excellent rebounding ability. He was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1969 and was selected to the All-Star Game five times. He was also named the NBA Most Valuable Player in 1969, an unusual accomplishment for a player so early in his career.
Unseld’s impact on the game of basketball was not limited to his play on the court. He was also known for his leadership and his ability to bring out the best in his teammates. After retiring from playing, he became a successful coach and executive in the NBA.
Wes Unseld was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1988.
